CoPro 16 will feature 7 different venues:
1. Pitching
May 28th – May 29th 2014
The Co-Production Pitching Forum : the annual Pitching event - a public presentation of scripts to potential international investors - will be held, as part of The 16th Israeli Documentary Screen Market, May 24th – May 31st, 2014, in Tel Aviv.
The Pitching event is meant to expand, enrich and advance Israeli independent documentaries as well as to facilitate and promote collaboration between Israeli documentary filmmakers and senior representatives of TV networks and producers from around the world. The two-day pitching takes place every spring, as part of CoPro - The Israeli Documentary Screen Market. During these two days the Israeli filmmakers take the podium, presenting their projects to a panel of international broadcasting networks and film fund representatives.
In its 16 years of operation, the Co-Productions Forum has made a good name for itself as an important and successful event on the global documentary-making map, attracting a regular assortment of international TV commissioning editors and film fund representatives who come to Tel Aviv year after year, scouting for interesting projects. To date, approximately 279 co-productions, totaling around 10 million €, were realized through the CoPro Market conventions.
The Process
Israeli documentary filmmakers are invited to submit their projects to CoPro during January. About twenty projects are subsequently selected by foreign lectors for the Pitching forum, held in May.
Eight weeks prior to the pitching CoPro holds a Master Class delivered by representatives from Israel and abroad, coaching the filmmakers how to best promote their ideas and scripts and how to translate the local culture substances so they are comprehended by global audiences. This is followed by simulations of the pitch itself that focus on how to perform a public presentation in the particular Pitching format.
A catalog with the chosen projects is published in preparation for the event, and a selected panel of senior representatives from TV networks and film funds across the world is invited.
The Co-Productions Pitching Forum
The selected filmmakers present their projects, in English, to the panel and an audience of invited professionals. Each presentation lasts around 14 minutes (about 7 minutes presentation, and about 7 more for the panel inquiries), preceded by a preview of the documentary’s main character, chosen footage or footage of the director’s previous work.
Some presentations are accompanied by representatives of an Israeli broadcasting entity or foundation who have already decided to collaborate in producing the project.
The event is moderated by Mr. Paterson Ferns, a leading Canadian producer and a co-designer of this format for fund-raising presentations. The event and its preliminary prep classes (master-class and simulation sessions) are held in English. Potential pitchers are advised to ensure high quality English translation of their texts and presentations.
