Dutch Films in Cannes

Sergei Loznitsa's A Gentle Creature has been selected for the Official Selection at the 70th Cannes Film Festival. The film is produced by Marianne Slot and Carine Leblanc for Slot Machine (France). In co-production with Peter Warnier of Wild at Art & Marc van Warmerdam of Graniet Film (The Netherlands), Arte France cinema, GP cinema company (Russia), Looksfilm (Germany), Studio Uljana Kim (Lithuania), Solar Media Entertainment (Ukraine). In association with Wild Bunch, Haut et Court, Potemkine Films, Atoms & Void and Film Angels Studio. Read more about the collaboration between Sergei Loznitsa and Peter Warnier here.

Still: A Gentle Creature

Short film LEJLA by Dutch director Stijn Bouma is selected for Cannes Cinéfondation. LEJLA is one of the 16 films (from the 2,600 works submitted this year by film schools around the world) the Cinéfondation Selection has selected. The film is written and directed by Bouma and is a coproduction between Béla Tarr's Sarajevo Film Academy in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Alchemic Film in The Netherlands.

The Cannes Classics will feature the Dutch Palme d’Or winning short, “Mirror of Holland” (1950) by Bert Haanstra. The Filmfund, in association with Submarine Channel, is presenting 4 projects in the VR-programme NEXT: Ashes to Ashes (Submarine Channel) , Februar (Maarten Isaäk de Heer) , What Do We Care 4 (Steye Hallema) en The Night Watch  (Maarten Treurniet). Also in Cannes, the following films can be seen in the market: An Act of Defiance (Bram Fischer, Jean van de Velde), Craving (Dorst, Saskia Diesing), Disappearance (Verdwijnen, Boudewijn Koole), RU Safe (Paul Ruven) Tulipani (Tulpen, Liefde, Eer en een Fiets, Mike van Diem), Waterboys (Robert Jan Westdijk) and Taxi Stories (Doris Yeung). Also minority coproductions Juze (Miransha Naik, Thin Air Productions from India, in co-production with Keplerfilm, The Netherlands) and The Wound (John Trengrove, Riva Filmproduktion from Germany, in coproduction with OAK Motion Pictures, The Netherlands) will be screened. Humidity by Nikola Ljuca, co-produced with a.o. JULIUS PONTEN: PRODUCER ON THE MOVE

Julius Ponten of production company New Amsterdam Production Company is the Dutch Producer on the Move this year. The Producers on the Move program is organized for the 18th consecutive year by European Film Promotion (EFP). During the four-day networking event in Cannes (19-23 May). A number of networking events involving Dutch and international producers are taking place during the festival: a lunch meeting with filmmakers and representatives from French-and-German speaking countries, and presentations & drinks with producers and representatives from China, USA and Canada.
