Walking the Red Carpet as a Common Person

Last night I had the honor of walking the red carpet for 'You Were Never Really Here'. The cameras were flashing, photographers were yelling, but it wasn't for me, obviously. There were security guards herding the crowd into the building as guests tried to take as many selfies as possible.

I was alone in the crowd of people, observing the faces, the lights flashing in the eyes of the people until an elderly woman with a wonderful sense of style offered to take my photo for me. She did and we had a very small conversation right before the guards herded us once more up the stairs and that was it. Red carpet experience was over.

It was an interesting thing, looking at everyone dressed in their best clothes just to be in the lime-light for the maximum of two minutes. It seemed to be an occasion to dress up for nothing, because not everyone was wearing gowns. Red carpet events are not what they used to be, it is no longer a "heels or you are not allowed in" type of situation, which says how far we've come when it comes to standards for women in Hollywood.

However there were plenty of men and women dressed to the nines (including me), and I do not doubt that people will be freaking out about walking on the red carpet for many, many more years. The idolization of celebrities and everything they do is just too strong!
