Completed - English, French - Jewish, Drama, Animation - 88 minutes (France Japan)
Animation feature film based on the true story of a Jewish family that goes into hiding during World War II.
Annelies Marie "Anne" Frank 12 June 1929 – February 1945) was a diarist and writer. She is one of the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Her wartime diary The Diary of a Young Girl has been the basis for several plays and films. Born in the city of Frankfurt in Weimar Germany, she lived most of her life in or near Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. Born a German national, Frank lost her citizenship in 1941. She gained international fame posthumously after her diary was published. It documents her experiences hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II.
The Frank family moved from Germany to Amsterdam in 1933, the year the Nazis gained control over Germany. By May 1940, they were trapped in Amsterdam by the German occupation of the Netherlands. As persecutions of the Jewish population increased in July 1942, the family went into hiding in some concealed rooms behind a bookcase in the building where Anne's father worked. After two years, the group was betrayed and transported to concentration camps. Anne Frank and her sister, Margot Frank, were eventually transferred to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where they died (probably of typhus) in February or March 1945.
Otto Frank, the only survivor of the family, returned to Amsterdam after the war to find that Anne's diary had been saved by one of the helpers, Miep Gies, and his efforts led to its publication in 1947. It has since been translated into many languages. It was translated from its original Dutch version and first published in English in 1952 as The Diary of a Young Girl. The diary, which was given to Anne on her thirteenth birthday, chronicles her life from 12 June 1942 until 1 August 1944.

First animated adaptation of “Anne Frank’s Diary” to stream online and VOD
Critically-acclaimed feature “Anne Frank’s Diary” will release its new remastered 2015 HD version on VOD and online platforms this Fall. “Anne Frank’s Diary” is the first animated feature film adaption of the widely popular book, produced by Globe Trotter Network (France) and A-N Committee (Japan), in collaboration with the Anne Frank Fonds.
Produced in full cell animation, “Anne Frank’s Diary” is set in Amsterdam and depicts a side of Anne never seen before. From the day she receives her famous journal to D-Day, the film visually translates the original text of the Frank family’s two years of deprivation, bombardment, and promiscuity.
"Animated "ANNE FRANK" retells story superbly. The movie is an achievement on several levels. It's aesthetic scheme is simple and unadorned enough to remind us that is a story of ordinary people thrust in into extraordinary circumstances, yet it's also gorgeous enough to carry us through its feature length. Its slab of colors and simple but inviting composition suggest paintings of Edward Hopper."
Betsy Sherman, BOSTON GLOBE
Yahoo! said “This animated feature will undoubtedly remain the most beautiful adaption of the most widely read work in the world.”
Buddy ELIAS, President of the ANNE FRANK FONDS wrote,
“The Film has moved me and I want to congratulate you for the high standard and sensibility in producing this film. I am sure it will be successful not only with the young audiences, but also for the elder generations. Anne Frank would have loved your adaptation!”
Simon WIESENTHAL wrote,
“I must admit that at first I had my doubts whether an animated film could do justice to Anne Frank’s Diary. I was therefore pleasantly surprised upon viewing it that the film doesn’t trivialize the story of Anne Frank and makes for exciting viewing. This depiction of the growing up of a vivacious young girl in very difficult and extremely threatening surroundings will touch the hearts of young viewers--and will hopefully lead them to be wary of all signs of collective hatred, racism and anti-Semitism. It is good that with such well-done animated film more young people can be reached than would be the case with the book alone.” (July 31, 2000)
The animation is superb, the settings exquisite. It is true to life. The director documented his research, worked on the basis of photographs. It is a true setting of the time. It made me want to go to Amsterdam. The tone of the Diary isn’t hopeless. Anne Frank is neither a view of the camps or of destruction. We know the family will die so there is great underlying emotion as we watch but the dialogue is full of humanity.
I prefer this movie to Schindler’s List or Life is Beautiful.”
Annette Wievorka (Historian), interviewed by L'EVENEMENT
“With in-depth research and access to unpublished archives, “Anne Frank’s Diary” sheds new light on the popular book, which has sold over 35 million copies. With its stunning visuals and access to online platforms, the famous text will not only reach millions more viewers but also inform the newer generation of Anne Frank’s Diary.”
Awarded the Children’s Jury Award at the Chicago International Children’s Festival.
Original soundtrack composed by Carine Gutlerner, violon played by award-winning Laurent Korcia will be available on CD and online platforms.

Noomi Rapace (“Prometheus,” “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Drop”) has signed on to play the iconic and most influential female opera singer of the 20th century, Maria Callas, in the feature biopic “Callas.”
Niki Caro (“McFarland, USA,” “Whale Rider,” “North Country”) is attached to direct “Callas” from a screenplay she adapted from Alfonso Signorini’s biography Too Proud, Too Fragile.
Content Media will handle world sales for “Callas” and introduce the project to distributors for the first time in Cannes.
The biopic is centered around the passionate relationship Maria Callas had with Aristotle Onassis over almost two decades. She’s acknowledged to be one of the more important and recognizable opera legends of all time and certainly was one of the most emotive and visually dramatic.
Producers on the fully financed European production are Guido, Nicola and Marco De Angelis of Italy’s De Angelis Group and René Bastian, Linda Moran and Victoria Bousis of New York-based Belladonna Productions, and Ben Latham-Jones of the UK’s Ealing Studios and Londinium Films. James Spring of Ealing Studios, Brett Thornquest of Eclectic Vision in Australia, Jason Van Eman of Weathervane, and Jamie Carmichael of Content are Executive Producers.
Guido De Angelis, President of De Angelis Group, said, “This movie is about an extraordinary woman whose deepest desire is to lead an ordinary life with the man of her choice. Callas was la Divina, a goddess, who just wanted to be a normal woman; she found out she couldn't. It sounds like an ancient myth. Niki Caro immediately identified and superbly built into the script this epic, deeply emotional and dramatic quality of the story. And we are absolutely thrilled that Noomi has come unboard, as she is dream casting for Callas. We are convinced she will be able to embody the indomitable spirit of such an important international icon.”
Content’s President of Film, Jamie Carmichael said, “We fell in love with ‘Callas’ instantly. It’s such an emotional and powerful story of one of the world’s great romances – and we’re certain that audiences around the world will be charmed and entranced by the passion, beauty and operatic splendor of this epic tale.”
Noomi Rapace is a BAFTA nominated actress who earned mainstream ‘leading-lady’ status with “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” and has gone on to star in such hit films as “Prometheus,” opposite Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron; “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” opposite Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law; “The Drop” opposite Tom Hardy and Matthias Schoenaerts. She is represented by Magnolia and CAA.

-CANNES MARCHE DU FILM PRESS RELEASE-
Edited by Vanessa McMahon
Despite murmurs of criticism amongst festival regulars, George Miller’s “Mad Max” looks to be a thrilling two hour kickoff for Thursdays big day of films. The movie looks to be a 2 hour long chase filled with explosions, killer Tom Hardy one liners and A-list acting from the beautiful Charlize Theron. The film will be followed by Matteo Garrones “Il Racconto Dei Racconti”, which has created quite a bit of excitement in the film world. The cinematography in the trailer alone looks to be an early Oscar contender and it features an interestingly versatile cast. Not only will it star a crazed, caracas munching Salma Hayek but it will also feature John C. Reilly whose range seems to perfectly fit this eccentric and fantastical world. Anyone out there hoping to score tickets outside of the Palais might want to use their time somewhere else as it does not seem likely many will be giving theirs up.
Foresight Unlimited is launching a television sales arm with an initial slate of three original series from Timothy Scott Bogart and Gary A. Randall’s Boardwalk Entertainment. Foresight’s Mark Damon and Tamara Birkemoe will handle foreign sales and work with international partners to co-produce projects with international themes which will be for the most part, shot abroad.
The first of the three one-hour dramatic scripted series will be “Headliners”, an international thriller written by Bogart and executive produced by Bogart, Gary A. Randall (A&E’s “The Glades,” TNT’s “Saving Grace”) and Gotham Chopra (Showtime’s “Kobe Bryant’s Muse,” ESPN’s “The Little Master”). “Headliners” is based on Chopra’s non-fiction work Familiar Strangers: Uncommon Wisdom in Unlikely Places. Story follows freelance reporter/blogger Gavin Stiles, who investigates a controversial story in Russia about a missing nuclear cargo.
The second project is “O.S.S.,” a spy drama created by Golden Globe® and Emmy Award ® winner Kirk Ellis (HBO’S “John Adams,” TNT’s “Into the West”). Series stems from a partnership between Boardwalk and former HBO executive and producer Anne Thomopoulos (HBO’s “Rome”, Starz’s “Camelot”, Canal + “The Borgias”, ABC’s “Black Box”) and will be executive produced by Ellis, Randall, Thomopoulos and Bogart. In the aftermath of Pearl Harbor, the President of the United States orders William ‘Wild Bill’ Donovan to create the nation’s first spy organization called O.S.S. Among the elite group of unlikely agents was Julia Child and Ian Fleming, trained to use wit, violence, and sex to do the impossible: undermine the Nazi front and win the war.
Lastly, “Paradise Salvage” is a globe-trotting treasure hunt series from Jim Kouf (NATIONAL TREASURE, RUSH HOUR), who currently is the showrunner for NBC’s smash series “Grimm” and previously ran CBS’ “Ghost Whisperer”. Kouf will executive produce along with Randall and Bogart.
Foresight’s CEO Mark Damon said, “The business of entertainment is ever changing with television currently at the forefront of the industry, thus we are thrilled to be teaming up with Boardwalk Entertainment along with some of television’s most talented creatives in Thomopoulos, Chopra, Ellis and Kouf to launch these three original new shows into the international marketplace.”
Boardwalk Partner Bogart said, “Foresight’s passion, vision and expertise in the world market sets them apart from anyone else in the field. I can think of no better partner to bring this exciting new slate of powerful and provocative entertainment to the global stage.”
Foresight and Bogart’s Boardwalk Entertainment’s are currently collaborating on the Neil Bogart biopic SPINNING GOLD, starring Justin Timberlake as the famous 1970s record icon. In addition, at Cannes, Foresight Unlimited is handling international sales on Scott Waugh’s $130 million sci-fi epic INVERSION and Bobby Farrelly’s ONE NIGHT STAN, which the company is also producing with casting underway.
